What are functional mushrooms (aka Adaptogens)?
Functional mushrooms (aka adaptogens) have been used for thousands of years in Eastern medicine to increase the body and mind's ability to work in a responsive manner to the body's needs. These natural substances are typically each used for a specific "function": boosting immunity, energy, stress support, and helping us stay focused.
Do the bars taste like mushrooms?
No, not at all! We recipe tested for months to get the flavors just right. Our bars are sweet, satisfying, and — this may come as a surprise — bear no resemblance to your farmer’s market fungi. So you get all the benefits of these ancient superfoods, without that bitter fungi taste.
What adaptogens do Balanced Tiger products contain?
Our bars contain adaptogenic mushrooms: cordyceps (militaris) for energy, lion's mane (hericium erinaceus) for focus and productivity, reishi (ganoderma lucidum) for stress balance and sleep support, and chaga (inonotus obliquus) to boost your immune system.
Should I consume the bars on a daily basis?
Yes! The greatest benefits of functional mushrooms are seen with daily use for extended periods of time. 
Are these Magic Mushrooms / will they make me trip?
Nope, they will not make you hallucinate and they do not contain any psilocybin! While these mushrooms have magical and powerful impacts on your health, they are 100% legal and are not drugs.
How many bars can I consume in a day?
When you are totally new to consuming functional mushrooms, we suggest that you start with one serving per day. Our products contains a full dose of functional mushrooms with a minimum of 1500 mg/serving. After a few days, you can start building your routine with up to 3-4 servings per day. Always listen to your body and increase or decrease dosage as you see fit.

We strongly encourage you to work with a qualified health care professional whenever making serious changes to your supplementation protocol, and especially if you’re someone with specific health-related needs or concerns.
Where do you source your mushrooms from?
Our mushrooms are organically and sustainably grown in Southern California!
Do you use the mushroom's fruiting body in your product?
At Balanced Tiger, we follow the science! So yes, we use the whole fruiting body but we also use a blend of mycelial biomass –  as mycelium is the primary and most bioactive stage of the mushroom life cycle and is full of polysaccharides, prebiotic fibers, neurotrophic and immune-supporting compounds.The truth is, both mushroom mycelium and mushroom fruiting bodies offer health benefits. Are the bars organic?
Yes, our products are USDA certified organic. All ingredients have cleared rigorous USDA certification standards, going all the way back to the farm.
Are the bars gluten free?
Yes, GFCO certified! The bars have been lab-tested and contain less than 10ppm gluten. For reference, search 'Balanced Tiger' on the gluten free website.
Are the bars non-GMO?
Yes, the non-GMO Project has certified these products. Here's our certification on nongmoproject.com
Are the bars vegan?
Yes, our products are 100% certified by Vegan Action! All our products are plant-based and use only vegan ingredients.
How are the bars sweetened?
The bars are sweetened with a dash of Tapioca Syrup, which is derived from Cassava, a naturally occurring tuberous root. This sustainable, organic sweetener provides great taste without any artificial funk, and only 5g total sugar per bar.
What proteins do the bars contain?
The products contain 11g total protein from Brown Rice Protein and Pea Protein.
Are there nuts in Balanced Tiger bars?
Yes, the bars contain nut butters and diced nuts.
Is the packaging sustainable?
Yes! Our direct to consumer box and envelopes are made from 100% recycled content, 95% post-consumer waste, curbside recyclable, and naturally biodegradable. Our retail boxes are recyclable and FSC certified. The only exception is the bar wrapper, which in the near future (when our supplier releases the product) will also be compostable.
Are your ingredients sustainably grown?
Yes, all Balanced Tiger suppliers have USDA Organic Certifications, which means the food is sustainably produced all the way back to the farm!
Where do you source your ingredients from?
Our ingredients come from U.S. suppliers with the exception of our organic brown rice protein, which comes from East Asia. If you'd like more detailed information on ingredient origins, please contact us.

Do you manufacture sustainably?
Yes! We are very passionate about all things being sustainable. Our mushrooms are sustainably cultivated in California using very little energy, our boxing supplier was 1 of 10 California companies to make the Green Team Honor Roll, our mushroom boxes are naturally grown in 7 days and compost into the soil in less than 30, and our product manufacturer is SQF and is partially run on solar power. SQF codes are designed to meet the highest regulatory requirements for all sectors of the food supply chain — from farms all the way to retail stores. We have and will continue to look for the best and most sustainable suppliers in the industry. 
Do you test your products for heavy metals?
Yes. All of our products are subject to a three step process. Our supplier provide us with their testing specs per batch, we run our product through metal detectors during manufacturing, and then post-manufacturing we have our manufacturer lab test for heavy metals and other contaminants to meet and exceed industry standards.

How can I change my subscription?
You can change, cancel, or skip your subscription at any time! Please login to your account to see these options. If you don't have an account, simply create one with the same email address that you placed the order with.
How should I store the bars?
Room temperature is recommended, however they also taste wonderful refrigerated.
What if the bars get hot during shipment?
We recommend putting them in the refrigerator for a few hours before consuming. Heat exposure can affect the product quality (added dryness or decreased flavoring) but heat will never actually spoil the product or make it unsafe to eat.
What is the shelf life?
We suggest you enjoy Balanced Tiger bars before the best by date on back of the packaging. This date is 12 months from date of production.
What's your shipping policy?
All shipping on orders above $40 is free. For orders under $40 we pay for the majority of shipping (typically $8-11), and charge the customer $3. If you receive a damaged product, let us know and we'll send another box right away.
Do you ship internationally?
Currently Balanced Tiger only ships to customers in the Continental US. We will be rolling out shipping to the rest of North America soon.
What is your return/refund policy?
If you don't love Balanced Tiger, we'll give you a 100% refund, no questions asked.
